I Asked Bobby Brink What Music He Does Listen to: “Really, It’s Just Pentatonix”

A post on the Philadelphia Flyers social media pages revealed the damning secrets behind the team's listening habits. The boys were asked what their "walk-up song" would be, if there was a such thing in hockey. There were some interesting answers, but the most interesting one was the very first.

"Honestly, I don't listen to, like, a ton of music," Bobby said in the video, refusing to elaborate. What kind of freak doesn't listen to music?

This was not our first insight to Brink's strange lifestyle. He's spoken before about refusing to wear jeans until Captain Sean Couturier went shopping with him to buy some. It's likely this kind of tomfoolery started at the top, as his parents decided to name their son after the legendary NHLer Bobby Orr. Remember, Bobby's legal name is Bobby Orr Brink, while Orr is a "Robert." Andy and Holly Brink likely game their son a nickname as a first name to do the whole chintzy matching names thing, given both of theirs end in Y. This is incredibly gay, not to mention irresponsible. What if he didn't want to play hockey? Or, rather, what if he sucked at it? It was one hell of a gamble.

This is all to say that, yes, Bobby Brink is an odd fellow, but I still find it very difficult to believe he doesn't listen to any music at all. It was this suspicion that brought me to my investigation. If you'd believe it, I was right. Brink listens to something, and it took being relentless to figure it out (and promising him it was all off-record.)

"Really, it's just Pentatonix. You know, the a cappella group with all the Christmas songs?"

I assured him I knew, I was just taken aback. I asked what he found appealing about them.

"There's just nothing else like it," he answered. "I've never heard a song where I didn't like the Pentatonix version better."

Do you just like a cappella? Or is it just Pentatonix?

"I tried listening to Straight No Chaser, but (laughs) I don't know why--it made me so angry I had to go take a walk to calm down."

The team had some opinions about Brink's musical preferences.

"It's fucked up. Seriously," Garnet Hathaway told me. "It's like working out to Beethoven--it's concerning and it freaks people out."

"I don't even want to talk about it," Alternate Captain Scott Laughton said. "It's not his fault; I think he was just raised wrong."

Safe to say, this team doesn't let Brink on the speaker often.
